Being an AWS Community Builder for Me

Hi everyone! It’s been a while since I posted an article last year but today I want to talk about AWS Community Builders.

https://aws.amazon.com/developer/community/community-builders/

Who am I?

I’m Dhona from Indonesia and I’m 22 years old. No degree but I have a year of experience as System Engineer. I‘m an AWS Community Builder since March this year (Q1 2022) for the Containers category.

How did I get started with AWS?

Last September, I joined the AWS She Builds program. Since I get to know about AWS, I always try to find out about AWS (connections through LinkedIn helped me so much) until I attended an online tech conference where I got information about AWS local events. That’s how I was getting interested to join the community.

What is AWS Community Builders?

The AWS Community Builders program offers technical resources, education, and networking opportunities to AWS technical enthusiasts and emerging thought leaders who are passionate about sharing knowledge and connecting with the technical community.

Interested AWS builders should apply to the program to build relationships with AWS product teams, AWS Heroes, and the AWS community.

What are the benefits?

Connecting with fellow members from around the world, service beta opportunities, webinars, $500 credits, some logos and wallpapers for our social, one certification exam voucher, free one-year subscription to Cloud Academy, re:Invent discount and more surprises. So many benefits, right?

In short, the program will help us to grow by learning more about AWS with the special and extra facilities provided. We will be together in one place with a lot of people who have the same goal, learn and share anything about AWS to help each other.

Did I have any preparation?

I can say no. But since I love writing, I’ve created some blog posts about AWS when I was learning to prepare for my Cloud Practitioner exam. So I used them as material (contribution I’ve done) to apply. Then in January this year, the application was opened and I definitely applied since I’m interested.

What’s the result?

My first application for this program was accepted and I am now an AWS Community Builder. This is the first and only community I’ve ever joined.

What do I love about this community?

I just joined for about 2 months. It’s so nice to be in a community together with a lot of people around the world who have the same interest to AWS. As I mentioned, I really love writing. So, this community really supports and gives me a wider space to do that. Check my posts about AWS on the DEV Community below!

Bonus

Beyond what I mentioned above or I can say beyond what AWS mentioned on their website, AWS Community Builders will also get a welcome kit (swag) as you can see mine below that finally arrived yesterday. I think it’s the most favorite part that everyone is excited for, right?

Progress

Update (July 15th): I was recognized as one of the Top 25 Contributors in the APJ region for Q2 2022.

Update (September 14th): I was invited and attended the first AWS APAC Community Summit 2022.

Update (October 14th): I had my first talk at AWS UG Indonesia about the Introduction to Ansible for AWS. Click here to watch the session!

Are you interested to join?

All you can do now is add your name to the waitlist. Why? Because you can’t apply anytime you want. You will be able to apply only when the application is opened. By adding your name to the waitlist, you will be notified via email when it’s opened. Please note that by adding your name to the waitlist, it doesn’t mean you’ve applied to this program.

More about the AWS Community Builders program, you can find out here.

Curious about the list of members? Check out the directory here.

That’s it! Thank you for reading my story :) Good luck for your application and see you soon in the community!
